Nice to Meet You!
Stacey Shevlin, happy to be Introducing Madera Design Studio. I’m so glad you found my blog and my site. I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and my brand to you.
I’ll go first with a quick rundown on who I am.
I’m from Radnor PA. Grew up there and went to college in Kutztown. After school I found myself living in the city of Philadelphia.
I’ve worked in a ton of different industries from advertising to marketing, publishing, project management, copywriting, bartending, acting, music and production. Damn – that is a ton.
"Hi I'm Stacey Shevlin "
I keep moving - I love learning new things and grabbing each new opportunity that presents itself to me.
I love to travel
Acting brought me to NYC then Los Angeles where I lived for 8 years. After deciding I needed a change of pace, my husband and I packed up and moved to Europe for a year (working from home rules). Midway through we wound up in Croatia and went temporarily (or permanently) insane and bought a complete renovation of an old stone house.
After a few years of back and forth doing said renovation – we moved back to our home in Philadelphia. We’ve been living between the two places since 2017 doing the renovation on our own.
Renovation is ... Hard
Not gonna lie, it’s hectic, chaotic, exciting, infuriating, exhausting, and challenging every single day. I’ve learned an immense amount about so many things and one of those things is woodworking.
This past year I really kept thinking about transferring all of the woodworking experience I’ve gained working on houses into something a bit more delicate and portable. Thus I am now introducing Madera Design Studio was born.
Madera Wooden Jewelry
Which leads me to … Madera Design Studio. We're a brand new shop that started in 2023. All of the items you see on the site are designed by me or in collaboration with other artists. Each piece of jewelry is handcrafted, unique, and few of a kind.
Madera Giving Back
I am also happy to say that for every purchase you make with us I'll be donating money to One Tree Planted, to help reforest our planet. You can read more about that on our Blog. Wood jewelry is definitely sustainable fashion but in addition I'm trying my best to use recycled and eco materials whenever possible.
Madera Philosophy
At Madera Design Studio, we are creators, storytellers, and curators of wearable art. Our passion lies in crafting wood jewelry that captures the essence of special places, unique ideas, and themes, and we aim to infuse all of that into every piece we create.
We believe that jewelry is a form of self-expression, a reflection of your individuality, and one way that you can open yourself to the world around you. That's why each of our collections is designed to tell a unique story and ultimately become part of your story.
Collections Inspired by Travel
The heart of our collections are inspired by destinations we love. So much so that Stacey even has a travel blog - Word From Abroad, so if you are hitting the road, have a look for some travel tips.
Our collections aim to transport you to these spaces - whether you are reminiscing of your time there or dreaming of the day you’ll visit - and to enable you to carry a piece of their charm with you wherever you go.
From the bustling streets of vibrant cities to the tranquil serenity of natural landscapes, we capture the essence of these remarkable places in the patterns and details of our wood jewelry.
But our inspiration doesn't stop there, we embrace ideas and themes that ignite our passion and hopefully yours. We’ll continue to expand as we follow our heads, hearts and imaginations.
Thanks for Your Time
Thanks for taking the time to get to know me and my vision a bit better. I am writing this in November of 2023 and I am still in the pre-launch phase of this business. So many things to learn and implement, the days are never long enough.
I’m pulling all of the odds and ends together with the technical and business parts of the brand so I can focus on the design and creative aspects that I so long for. Please follow along. I’ll be posting behind the scenes info about the business and the craft.
